Greece shore excursions with Bakadi Dreams

Tell us which ship you are on and how long you have ashore, and we will suggest the Greece excursion that fits your day.

Which Greece port are you calling at?

Greece is not one destination but several hundred, and the island your ship docks at changes the day completely. On Santorini the whole point is the caldera: the cliff-top villages of Fira and Oia, the black volcanic beaches below, and the wineries on the sheltered eastern slopes where Assyrtiko grapes grow in low basket-shaped vines. Distances are short, but the crowds and the cable car queue make timing important.

Crete is the opposite. It is big enough to have mountains, gorges, a Minoan palace at Knossos, Venetian harbours at Chania and Rethymno, and long stretches of empty south coast. Our Crete jeep safari deliberately leaves the coach routes behind and heads for the villages and plateaus inland, which is where the island still feels like itself.

Both destinations are covered by private Bakadi Dreams tours: your own vehicle, an English-speaking guide, a small group and a schedule built around your ship rather than a fixed departure. More Greece ports are being added as we extend the programme. Choose your island below, or tell us your ship’s itinerary and we will suggest what fits the hours you have ashore.

Planning a day ashore in Greece

Two things decide how much you can fit into a call: the distance from the pier and whether your ship berths or tenders. Santorini is a tender port, and the ride ashore plus the cable car or the old mule path up the cliff can absorb an hour in each direction, so a private tour that starts the moment you land makes a real difference. Crete’s ports at Heraklion and Chania take ships alongside, which frees the whole day for the interior.

Summers are hot and dry, with very little shade at archaeological sites, so we start early wherever we can and keep the middle of the day for somewhere cool – a winery, a taverna in the hills, a museum. Spring and autumn are the pleasant months for walking. Whatever the season, we plan the route so that you are back at the ship with time in hand rather than cutting it fine.
