Maya Ruins & Beach
Join Bakadi Dreams for a wonderfully varied private shore excursion on Cozumel that combines culture, history and breathtaking natural beauty. Far from the big tourist crowds, you will step into the fascinating world of the ancient Maya, explore the island’s wild eastern coast and unwind on a peaceful Caribbean beach – the perfect blend of discovery and relaxation for your day in port.
Travelling in a small private group with your friendly English-speaking guide, you will hear the captivating story of the Maya people, the arrival of the Spanish more than 500 years ago and the colourful era of pirates and smugglers that once shaped the history of Cozumel.
San Gervasio – The Legacy of the Maya
The first highlight of the tour is the archaeological site of San Gervasio, the most important of Cozumel’s Maya ruins. Hidden deep in the island’s tropical jungle, you will discover well-preserved temples and structures dating from between 1200 and 1500 AD. During an unhurried guided walk, your guide brings the site to life with stories about Maya architecture, astronomy, mathematics, religion and everyday life.
In ancient times San Gervasio was a sacred place of pilgrimage dedicated to Ixchel, the Maya goddess of fertility and the moon. Although the site is smaller than the famous Maya cities on the Mexican mainland, it captivates visitors with its intimate atmosphere and remarkable history. The entrance fee is already included in your excursion.
The Untouched East Coast of Cozumel
After exploring the Maya ruins, we drive across the island to Cozumel’s almost untouched eastern shore. Here, dream-like beaches, dramatic views over the Caribbean Sea and countless photo opportunities await you. Away from the tourist centres, you experience the wild, original side of the island.
At the beautiful Playa Pescadores we make a relaxed beach stop. Take a stroll along the coast, enjoy the peace and quiet or treat yourself to a cool Mexican beer or a refreshing drink at a cosy beach restaurant (drinks not included).
Private, Flexible and Made for You
Because this is a private tour, the itinerary can be tailored to your wishes. If all guests agree, additional stops can easily be added along the way – simply let your guide know what you would like to see, and we will make your day on Cozumel as personal and memorable as possible.
This private Bakadi Dreams excursion runs at a relaxed pace, in a small group, with a guaranteed return to your cruise ship in good time.
