Hike to Longueira

This hike leads through the striking valley of Sao Jorge on the island of Santiago. Indeed, it starts in the charming village of Rui Vaz and ends in Longueira, deep in unspoilt scenery. Moreover, the route passes the only botanical garden on the island.

Through the Valley of Sao Jorge

The trail runs about five kilometres and takes roughly four hours. You descend some 400 metres, with almost no climbing, so average fitness is enough. The path crosses the green and fertile valley, where the local plant and animal life is easy to spot. Above all, the botanical garden along the way holds endemic species found nowhere else in the world.
