Salazie Caldera Day Trip
This full-day trip explores the mountain world of the Salazie caldera and the creole village of Hell-Bourg. Indeed, Hell-Bourg counts among the most beautiful villages in France, set in lush greenery with colonial charm. Moreover, the route includes an insight into vanilla growing on Reunion.
Hell-Bourg and the Vanilla Cooperative
The road climbs into the caldera between steep green walls, with waterfalls dropping from the heights. In Hell-Bourg, restored creole houses line the streets and gardens spill over the fences. On clear days the Piton des Neiges rises above the valley at over 3,000 metres. Above all, a stop at a vanilla cooperative shows how the pods are pollinated by hand and cured over months.
