Crossing a Miniature Continent

Driving from Las Palmas to the south coast takes little more than an hour, yet the landscape changes completely along the way. Indeed, the road climbs from sea level to well over a thousand metres before dropping again. In the highlands, pine forest and bare rock replace the plantations of the coast.
