Madeira East Tour with Monte

This tour explores the east of Madeira and finishes at the viewpoint of Monte above Funchal. Indeed, the east holds the island’s most distinctive traditional houses and its wildest headland. Moreover, the scenery changes constantly along the route.

Santana, the East Coast and Monte

In Santana stand the famous palheiros, small triangular houses with steep thatched roofs painted in bright colours. Afterwards, the road follows the east coast towards Ponta de São Lourenço, a bare volcanic peninsula quite unlike the green interior. Finally, the tour climbs to Monte, where the church and gardens look out over Funchal and the bay far below.
