Luxor Classic Tour
This full-day tour from Safaga reaches Luxor, the greatest open-air museum in the world. Indeed, ancient Thebes holds a concentration of monuments found nowhere else on earth. Moreover, the drive inland takes about three hours each way through the desert.
Valley of the Kings and Karnak
On the west bank lies the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs were buried in tombs cut deep into the rock, their walls still bright with painted scenes. Nearby stand the Colossi of Memnon, two vast seated figures that once guarded a vanished temple. Afterwards, on the east bank, the temple complex of Karnak overwhelms with its forest of giant columns. Above all, the scale of these monuments is impossible to grasp from photographs.
