Morning Jeep Safari

This desert adventure starts the day in the dunes of Abu Dhabi. Indeed, pick-up is at around 08:00 with a comfortable four-wheel drive Landcruiser. Moreover, the drive out towards the desert is already part of the experience.

Golden Dunes in the Morning

After leaving the city the tarmac soon gives way to sand, and the driver reduces the tyre pressure before beginning. The vehicle works its way across ridges and down slip faces in long controlled slides. In the morning the light is soft and the heat still bearable. Above all, there is time to stand on a dune crest in complete silence, with nothing but sand in every direction.

Tour Highlights

  • Dune driving in a 4×4 Landcruiser
  • Soft morning light on the dunes
  • Stops for photographs in the desert
  • Cooler temperatures than at midday

The Liwa Desert

The dunes south of Abu Dhabi form the northern edge of the Rub al Khali, the Empty Quarter, the largest continuous sand desert on earth. Indeed, some of the dunes here reach well over a hundred metres. The sand takes its orange colour from iron oxide, and the shade shifts through the day as the light changes. Moreover, this is where the Bani Yas tribe, ancestors of the ruling family, lived around the Liwa oasis before moving to the coast. Above all, in the morning the air is still clear of haze, so the ridgelines stand out sharply against the sky.
