Petra, the Rock City

This excursion from Aqaba reaches Petra, one of the new seven wonders of the world. Indeed, pick-up is at around 06:30, arranged around your ship. Moreover, the drive inland takes about two and a half hours in an air-conditioned coach.

Through the Siq to the Treasury

Petra lies hidden between steep rock walls and can be entered only by a narrow mountain path from the north-west or, from the east, through the Siq. That gorge runs some 1.5 kilometres and reaches 200 metres deep, narrowing to just a few metres at its tightest. As you walk it, water channels cut by the Nabataeans still line the walls. Above all, the Treasury appears without warning at the end of the passage, its facade carved directly into the rose-coloured rock.
