Madeira West Tour

This tour follows the dramatic west of Madeira to the natural lava pools of Porto Moniz. Indeed, the north-west coast is among the most spectacular parts of the island. Moreover, the road passes through tunnels, terraces and mountain scenery along the way.

Porto Moniz and the Steep Coast

At Porto Moniz, volcanic rock forms natural pools that fill with clear Atlantic water, sheltered from the surf just metres away. On the way there the road crosses the high plateau of Paul da Serra, often above the clouds. Afterwards, viewpoints along the cliffs look down hundreds of metres to the sea. Above all, the contrast between bare highland and green valley is striking.
