Greater North: Icod de los Vinos & Garachico

This tour follows the northern route and adds two further highlights in the west. Indeed, it combines the colonial towns of the north with a famous ancient tree and a lava-carved harbour. Moreover, the coastal scenery along the way is spectacular.

The Dragon Tree and the Lava Pools

After the towns of the north, the road continues to Icod de los Vinos, home to the Drago Milenario, a dragon tree said to be around a thousand years old. Its strange branching crown makes it the most photographed tree on the island. Afterwards, Garachico follows, where a volcanic eruption in 1706 buried the harbour and left behind natural rock pools filled by the sea.
